Meet your Educators

  • Charlotte Young

After chatting to other mums at playgroup I learnt about the stress many parents have around emergency situations. Especially when it comes to febrile seizures, choking, knowing when to call an ambulance, or how to perform CPR.

As a mum myself, I also experience the worry of keeping little ones safe and healthy. But as an experienced Paediatric ICU nurse, I know - knowledge is power. The more you know, the more prepared you feel to manage any unexpected injury or illness.

    Charlotte’s qualifications

    • Bachelor of Nursing with 8 years experience as a Paediatric ICU Nurse

    • Master of Nursing (Paediatric Research, First Class) through the University of Auckland

    • Specialised education in Advanced Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing

    • Certification in Advanced Emergency Management

    • New Zealand Resuscitation Council certified Emergency Care Instructor

    • Previous experience as a university level clinical tutor - teaching fundamental assessment skills to nursing students

  • Teresa Wong

During my time guiding junior paediatric ICU nurses and nursing students, I’ve seen the transformation that comes with the right learning experience. It’s important you don’t just hear the information but you learn in a way that's relevant and engaging.

We get that people learn differently. We get that learning new skills can feel intimidating. We get you — and we’ve created this course with you in mind. There are no silly questions or judgement here, only support

    Teresa’s Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Nursing with 7 years experience as a Paediatric ICU Nurse

    • Specialised education in Advanced Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing

    • Certification in Advanced Emergency Management

    • University level clinical tutor since 2021, working directly with final year nursing students during their child and family health placement

    • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) specialist nurse

    • Currently in her last year of a Master of Nursing through the University of Auckland

    • New Zealand Resuscitation Council certified Emergency Care Instructor

    • Paediatric ICU clinical coach — responsible for educating, supporting and coaching PICU nurses

Our Story

& Breathe was not an overnight idea. We’ve spent hundreds of hours speaking with subject specialists, assessing current guidelines, and developing our course content in a way that’s 100% evidence-based. You could say our perfectionist tendencies come from our work — when you’re a nurse in the ICU, you can’t afford to miss a thing.

We developed our courses alongside real families, meaning we got to witness the power of knowledge in action, with many of our parents going from anxious and stressed (especially when navigating the demands of each new milestone) to enjoying life with their little friends with a new sense of confidence.

As educators, we know the importance of learning  in a way that's relevant & engaging.  We don't want you to only learn vital first aid information, but for you to remember what to do and feel confident in your skills when the minutes count. This is why we have a strong focus on the experience as a whole — from our workbooks to our public venues, & Breathe is a modern, personal and intentionally-curated experience.

Life’s too short to be stressing about the ‘what ifs’,

- Charlotte & Teresa

Still wondering if it’s worth it?

  • Children in NZ received CPR only 67% of the time when they were in cardiac arrest. One of the most common reasons people don’t perform infant CPR is because they panic & aren’t confident in their ability to do it effectively.

  • Performing effective compressions AND breaths when resuscitating a child not only means better survival rates but that they’re 2.7x more likely to have a favourable neurological outcome (meaning they can continue developing at the age-appropriate rate).

  • Training with social support significantly reduces family member anxiety and increases feelings of empowerment. When parents take even a short specialised course, their knowledge of when to start CPR (and how to do it confidently) significantly improves.
